– I just have to get a joint and a beer, she said swaggering down the street.
I saw her a couple of blocks away from the stadium where her favorite baseball team, The Tampa Bay Rays, play their games in St Petersburg, Florida, USA. What she just “had to get” was that little extra something before the game, against archrivals Boston Red Sox, that would start two hours later the same day.
The yellow sandals had high heels, her jeans were tight and she headed with confidience to where her wish would be fulfilled.
Even though the police has tried to stop the rampant drug use in Williams Park I could feel a significant sweet smell – the one of marijuana – entering the area on Monday afternoon. Mostly men sat on the benches in spite of the rain that had was pouring down leaving the air damp, making their seats wet. It didn´t seem to bother them. At all.
One might think it should. A study from National institute on drug abuse showed that more than 10 000 visits to the ER in 2010 were related to synthetic marijuana. Most of them were men. But women represent one out of four admitted.
Almost instantly at arrival to Willams Park my so called guide – since she didn´t know I was following her – found some wellknown faces hanging around. From a distance I saw money and goods being exchanged.
And off she went towards the Tropicana stadium, with what she just had to get, with the clacking noise of her yellow heels.
